Slap Shots will go in way more often that you think, and if they don't but hit the goalie, the goalie should get stunned for a few seconds allowing you to score the rebound. Its the year of the Slap Shot! That means if you can take a slap shot and possibly get it at the end, do it.

It was completely fine in previous game, but they changed it and especially for those who have played previous games may struggle with the seemingly unpredictability of what's going to happen when you press the switch players/pass button. The algorithm the game uses to choose which character you are going to switch to as well as where you are trying to pass has changed for seemingly no reason. This control scheme did receive a few tweaks from NHL 16 in that it now allows for the ability to crouch block and stick lift which lessens the gap of abilities from the Skill Stick controls to basically just the inability to change lines and strategies on the fly. Now there is another control scheme called Hybrid, which is much easier to learn initially. RT is pass, up on the right analog stick is shoot, down then up is Slap Shot, which you will be doing a lot of this year. The controls are practically unchanged from NHL 16 for the main Skill Stick control scheme, which can be hard to get use to, especially if you play several different genres of games as this control scheme isn't really intuitive. So let's start breaking down each of the different parts of the game. Hockey has been played by the almost the same rules for quite a while now, and therefore the core gameplay will always be the same in these simulation style NHL games. The objective is still the same, and that is to put the puck in the back of your opponents net and hope the ref doesn't wave it off for goalie interference whilst trying to stop the puck from going in to your net. NHL 17 at it's core is the same hockey game we all know and love from previous installment of the franchise.
